What A 1609 does, verified March 6, 2026

The bill aims to expand the definition of qualified agencies in New York State. Currently, qualified agencies include various government departments and law enforcement offices. The bill adds a new entity to this list: a society for the prevention of cruelty to animals, allowing it to access the Division of Criminal Justice Services' central data facility. This expansion enables the society to better investigate and enforce animal welfare laws. The changes take effect immediately.
