A 1637: Limits a candidate for public office to one authorized committee per election; defines the term "multi-candidate committee" and provides that such a committee may not be authorized by a candidate.
The proposed law aims to limit a candidate's authorized committee during an election. A multi-candidate committee is defined as a committee that has existed for at least six months, has received contributions from more than fifty individuals, and has made contributions to at least five candidates in the state. This type of committee cannot be authorized by a candidate and is subject to new regulations. To aid or take part in a candidate's election, a committee must obtain written authorization from the candidate. No candidate can authorize more than one committee for an election.
