A 1672: Prohibits contracts for the purchase or financing of a dog or cat from online websites from including provisions allowing repossession of the animal.
What A 1672 does, verified November 22, 2025
The bill aims to prohibit certain contracts for the purchase or financing of pets, including provisions that allow for the repossession of the animal if payments are not made. This means that pet sellers and lenders cannot use the pet as collateral to secure a loan, and cannot repossess the pet if payments are missed. The bill also makes an exception for unsecured personal loans, and does not limit the enforcement of other provisions related to pet sales. The bill applies to both in-person and online pet sales, and takes effect immediately.
