What A 1767 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to change the rules for updating voter enrollment in New York State. A change of enrollment can take effect immediately, but only if it is accompanied by a dated cancellation mark from the United States Postal Service or if it is received by the board of elections no later than the 20th day before a primary, general, or special election. If the change of enrollment is received after February 14th and before the June primary, it will take effect on the seventh day after the June primary. For special elections, changes can take effect no later than the 10th day before the election. The change will be deemed to take effect on the 25th day after the date of the cancellation mark, whichever is earlier. However, no change will take effect sooner than the 20th day after the receipt of the change of enrollment, unless it is related to a special election.
