What A 1824 does, verified January 9, 2026
The bill aims to amend the Criminal Procedure Law in New York. It seeks to include certain charges, such as criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, as qualifying offenses for consideration of an order of recognizance, release under non-monetary conditions, or bail. This means that individuals convicted of these offenses may be eligible for alternative forms of punishment rather than traditional bail. The bill would make this change effective immediately.
