What A 1918 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law requires the board of elections or a bipartisan committee to audit three percent of voting machines or systems within the jurisdiction after each general or special election, primary election, and village election. The audit must be conducted by a hand recount of voter verifiable audit records and must be performed randomly, with at least five days' notice given to candidates, parties, and independent bodies. Each candidate, party, or independent body entitled to watchers at the polls can appoint watchers to observe the audit. The audit will be conducted in a manner similar to a canvass of paper ballots. The law will take effect immediately.
