What A 205 does, verified January 10, 2026

The bill requires police departments to electronically transmit a copy of each report of a stolen vehicle to the parking violations bureau within five days of the report's completion. This electronic transmission serves as proof that the vehicle was reported as stolen prior to the time of the parking violation. If the vehicle owner receives a notice of a parking violation, they can use this electronic transmission as a valid defense to any charge of a parking violation. The defense is sufficient if a copy of the police report is on file with the parking violations bureau or has been mailed to it. The bill takes effect on the thirtieth day after it becomes a law.
