Assembly BillIntroduced
A 2083: Relates to sentencing and larceny of property of the elderly or disabled.
What A 2083 does, verified January 10, 2026
The proposed law, known as "Todd's Law", aims to provide more severe penalties for individuals convicted of theft who target vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly or disabled. When a person is convicted of petit larceny or grand larceny, and the stolen property is necessary for daily activities of these vulnerable individuals, the crime will be classified as one category higher than the specified offense. This means that a misdemeanor will be treated as a class C, D, or E felony, while a class C, D, or E felony will be treated as a class B, A, or X felony. The law will take effect immediately.
