What A 2509 does, verified January 8, 2026

The state of New York is providing reimbursement for lost tax revenue due to toxic contamination. The program is limited to municipalities in Rensselaer County that have been contaminated by the Dewey Loeffel landfill. These municipalities can apply for reimbursement annually, which is based on the difference between the actual valuation of the affected properties and the reduced assessed value due to contamination. The reimbursement system will continue until the Dewey Loeffel landfill is removed from the state's hazardous waste sites inventory. The program will take effect on April 1st of the year following the bill's passage.
