What A 251 does, verified January 9, 2026
The bill proposes to amend the Real Property Tax Law to exempt certain state lands in Oswego County from taxation. These lands are used for conservation purposes, such as fish hatcheries, game farms, and reforestation. The exemption applies to lands leased from the United States for a term of 50 years or more. The exemption does not apply to towns in Oswego County where the state has acquired land on or after December 15, 1989. The changes take effect on January 1 of the following year and apply to assessment rolls prepared on or after that date.
