A 2601: Relates to the expungement of syringe convictions of criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument.
The proposed law aims to expunge syringe convictions in New York. The law will allow individuals convicted of certain offenses, such as possession or sale of syringes, to have their records cleared. The expungement is contingent on the conviction being for an offense defined in specific sections of the penal law, such as possession of syringes or needles. Additionally, individuals convicted of certain violations of syringe-related offenses prior to the law's effective date will also be eligible for expungement. The law will take effect 108 days after it becomes a law, allowing individuals to have their records cleared.
