A 2640: Requires prescription drug containers be labeled with a description of the size, shape, color and imprint of the prescription drug it contains if such drug is in tablet or capsule form.
The proposed law aims to improve the safety and security of prescription medication by requiring pharmacies to label containers with specific information. This information includes the size, shape, color, and imprint of the prescription drug, as well as the prescriber's name and address, patient's name and address, and directions for use. The law also mandates that the label be affixed to the container and conform to regulations promulgated by the commissioner. Additionally, the law requires the prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances to be subject to additional requirements provided in the public health law. The law will take effect on the ninetieth day after it becomes a law.
