The bill requires cardiac fitness certificates, including electrocardiograms or echocardiograms, for students participating in interscholastic athletics in public schools. Students in seventh grade or those who will turn 13 during the school year must obtain the certificate before participating in sports. The certificate must be signed by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner who is authorized to practice in the state or jurisdiction where the examination was given. The certificate describes the student's cardiac fitness and whether they have any heart conditions that could result in severe adverse health outcomes during athletic activity.
