A 3033: Relates to the practice of acupuncture and the exemption that a person who does not otherwise possess the credentials or qualifications required for the practice of acupuncture may engage in the practice of auriculotherapy or "ear acupuncture" subject to certain restrictions.
The bill proposes to amend the Education Law to allow for the practice of auriculotherapy, also known as "ear acupuncture", without a license. A person can engage in this practice if they have proper training in clean needle techniques, use sterile needles, and do not purport to diagnose or treat any disease. They must also not use any letters or words indicating that they are an acupuncturist, and their practice is limited to the ear. The practice is subject to general supervision by a licensed acupuncturist and is strictly limited to the insertion of disposable sterile needles into the ear. The state will monitor and evaluate the practice to ensure it is done safely and within the scope of practice.
