The proposed law aims to classify criminal possession of a firearm as a class D felony. It would apply to individuals who possess a firearm without registering it, despite being exempt from registration requirements, prior to the effective date of the law. This change would increase the penalties for such offenses, making them more severe. The law would take effect 30 days after it becomes law.
