A 3718: Provides for toll reimbursement for port authority of New York and New Jersey employees for entering or exiting the port authority port district, the twenty-five mile radius of the Statue of Liberty National Monument.
The proposed law aims to amend a 1921 chapter of the New York state laws regarding the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The law would require the Port Authority to reimburse employees, both represented and non-represented, for mandatory toll charges incurred while entering and traveling within the Port Authority's 25-mile radius. This reimbursement would be done through the use of non-revenue E-ZPass or a similar device exclusively for commuting purposes. Employees would be required to surrender their E-ZPass upon retirement, resignation, or termination. The law would take effect immediately in New York, but only after the state of New Jersey enacts identical legislation, which would be notified to the New York legislative bill drafting commission.
