A 379: Allows the New York state thruway authority to provide a discounted toll rate to farmers transporting agricultural products.
The proposed legislation aims to provide a discounted toll rate to farmers transporting agricultural products on roads maintained by the New York State Thruway Authority. Farmers engaged in activities related to the agriculture and markets law and producing certain products are eligible for this discount. Those farmers who are also exempt from paying taxes under the tax law will receive a 50% discount on the normal toll rate. The discount does not apply to additional surcharges or non-commercial vehicle travel. Farmers can file their tax exemption certificate with the Thruway Authority, which will then issue E-ZPass tags providing the 50% discount. This discount will take effect on January 1, 2027.
