A 3802: Relates to requirements for and forms of certificates of insurance.
The bill aims to improve the reliability of certificates of insurance in New York State. It requires all certificates of insurance to be issued by insurers and be binding on the insurer. The bill also modifies a section of the insurance law to prohibit the issuance of a certificate of insurance as a condition of awarding a contract, unless it is a standard form approved by the superintendent. The standard forms must be approved by the superintendent or an industry standard-setting organization. The bill takes effect 90 days after it becomes a law.
