What A 389 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to allow home-schooled students to participate in district interscholastic sports. Home-schooled students would be required to meet the same responsibilities and standards as public school students, including health examinations, immunizations, and age eligibility requirements. The student would also need to meet academic requirements annually, which may include additional requirements set by the school district. Home-schooled students would only be eligible to try out for and participate on the school district of their residence's interschool athletic team. Transportation costs would be the responsibility of the student's parent or guardian.
