What A 3985 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to limit the fine amount that can be imposed on individuals who fail to pay tolls using the E-ZPass system. The proposed law states that the fine cannot exceed the amount of the unpaid toll, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the unpaid toll. This change is intended to reduce the financial burden on individuals who inadvertently forget to pay their tolls or experience technical difficulties with the system. The bill takes effect immediately, and it will amend the Public Authorities Law to reflect this new policy.
