A 4026: Relates to enacting the "New York state window tinting safety and enforcement act".
The bill aims to improve safety on New York State roads by increasing enforcement of window tint laws. The law limits the amount of light that can pass through vehicle windows, with 70% being the maximum allowed. The bill introduces new penalties for non-compliance, including fines and vehicle registration suspension. Law enforcement agencies will conduct quarterly window tint enforcement sweeps to ensure compliance. A public education campaign will inform vehicle owners about the updated laws and enforcement procedures. The Department of Motor Vehicles will provide free tint cards to check compliance and submit an annual report on safety inspection failures and violations. The bill appropriates $2 million to support law enforcement agencies in enforcing the new laws.
