A 4097: Requires the use of canines trained to detect drugs and firearms during inspections of day care facilities or premises.
The bill aims to improve the inspection process of child day care facilities in New York State. The Office of Children and Family Services can now make announced or unannounced inspections of child care providers' records and premises without prior notice. Unannounced inspections are required within 15 days of receiving a complaint that suggests non-compliance with regulations or statutory requirements. In cases where imminent danger to children is suspected, an investigation must be conducted within the next day of operation. Trained canines will be used to detect the presence of drugs and firearms during inspections. The changes will take effect 30 days after the bill becomes a law.
