A 4160: Increases the penalties for stopping, standing, or parking in handicapped spaces without a handicapped permit to not less than one hundred fifty dollars nor more than three hundred dollars for the first offense and three hundred to five hundred fifty dollars for the second offense occurring within a period of five years within the state.
The bill aims to increase penalties for stopping, standing, or parking in handicapped spaces without a valid permit. It makes it a violation to park in such areas unless the vehicle bears a permit issued under a specific section or a registration issued under another section, and the vehicle is being used to transport a severely disabled or handicapped person. The penalty for such a violation is a fine of at least $150 and up to $550 for the first offense, and $300 to $550 for the second offense. Additionally, the bill makes it a violation to park in handicapped spaces without a valid permit, regardless of the reason for the parking, and subjects violators to a fine of at least $150 and up to $300 for the first offense, and $300 to $500 for the second offense. The bill takes effect 30 days after it becomes a law.
