What A 4186 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to prohibit roadside signage for the sale of cannabis in the state of New York. The law would not apply to signs that identify an authorized retailer and are located on the premises of that business, as long as the signage only identifies the business. Cannabis product signage should be affixed to a building and not readable on the highway, road, or other vehicular pathway. Violations of the law would be punishable by a civil penalty of up to $1,000 for the first offense and up to $2,500 for subsequent offenses.
