What A 4267 does, verified April 23, 2026

The bill aims to provide relief to individuals whose names or identification have been used without their consent by another person who has been charged or arrested. A person can file a petition with the court to seal or destroy records related to the identity theft. If approved, the court order can be submitted to the attorney general, who can issue an "identity theft passport" that includes the victim's photograph and fingerprint record. The passport can be provided to criminal justice agencies and individuals who have submitted a court order, and a record of the issuance is transmitted to the department of motor vehicles, which notes the information on the individual's driver abstract.
