A 4269: Provides that a minor from six to sixteen years being absent from full time day instruction for the purpose of sounding "Taps" at a military honors funeral held in this state for a deceased veteran shall be excused from school.
The bill allows minors between the ages of six and sixteen to be excused from full-time day instruction for the purpose of sounding "taps" at a military honors funeral held in the state. To be excused, the student must notify the school administration within two days prior to the date of absence and provide the date, time, and location of the funeral. The school administration may waive this two-day requirement if the student did not receive advance notice. A student whose absence is excused is counted towards the average daily attendance of the school district and is allowed reasonable time to make up any missed school work. If the student satisfactorily completes the school work, the day of absence is counted as a day of compulsory attendance and they are not penalized for that absence. The bill takes effect on the first of July next succeeding the date it becomes a law.
