What A 427 does, verified July 2, 2025
The proposed law aims to redefine medical debt in New York State. Medical debt is defined as any obligation related to health care services, products, or devices provided by hospitals, health care professionals, or ambulance services. This definition excludes debt charged to credit cards that are not specifically designed for health care payments. The law will take effect on the same date as a previously proposed amendment to the General Business Law and the Public Health Law.
