A 4482: Prohibits price gouging on certain consumer goods sold at thruway gas stations, restaurants, and other facilities.
The proposed law aims to prevent price gouging on essential goods and services during market disruptions. During an abnormal disruption, such as a natural disaster or emergency, no party in the distribution chain can sell goods or services for an unconscionably excessive price. This includes consumer goods, medical supplies, and services essential for health and welfare. The law applies to all parties in the distribution chain, including manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers. The prohibition also extends to repairs made on an emergency basis due to the disruption. The law takes effect immediately.
