What A 4539 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed legislation aims to increase the amount of income a property owner can earn before losing eligibility for the property tax exemption for persons sixty-five years of age or over. The exemption threshold would be set at three thousand dollars, but the amount could be adjusted by local law, ordinance, or resolution. This change would allow more seniors to qualify for the exemption, potentially reducing the tax burden on elderly homeowners.
