What A 4662 does, verified January 9, 2026

The bill aims to strengthen laws against impersonation crimes in New York State. It expands the definition of "criminal impersonation in the first degree" to include various professions, such as police officers, election officials, and licensed physicians. These individuals can be charged with a class E felony if they pretend to be someone they're not and deceive others into submitting to their pretended authority or acting in reliance on the pretense. The bill also makes it a crime to impersonate a pharmacist by communicating an oral prescription that requires a written record. The new law will take effect on November 1st of the following year after it's passed.
