A 4688: Increases the maximum sentence of imprisonment for certain misdemeanors to one year.
The bill aims to amend the penal law in New York by increasing the maximum sentence of imprisonment for certain misdemeanors to one year. The amendments apply to both class A and unclassified misdemeanors, requiring a definite sentence with a fixed term imposed by the court. The revised sentences cannot exceed one year, regardless of the specific law or ordinance defining the crime. The changes take effect on January 1 of the following year, and the state is authorized to make necessary rule or regulation changes to implement the act by its effective date.
