Assembly BillIntroduced

A 48: Prohibits a distributive share from passing to a person convicted of committing or attempting to commit a sex offense.

New York · Assembly · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 8, 2026

What A 48 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to prevent individuals convicted of sex offenses from inheriting a share of a decedent's estate. It disqualifies a person convicted of committing or attempting to commit a sex offense from receiving a distributive share in the estate of the decedent. If a person is disqualified, the estate will be distributed according to the existing rules, as if they had predeceased the decedent. The law will take effect on January 1, following its enactment.
