A 4848: Authorizes distinctive license plates for female veterans.
The bill allows female veterans and their spouses to obtain distinctive license plates with the words "female veteran" on them. To obtain a plate, an applicant must submit a request to the commissioner, providing proof of their status as a female veteran. The plates will be issued upon payment of the regular registration fee, with an additional one-time service charge of $10. A surety bond is required to be posted, but if at least 200 orders are received within two years of the plate's availability, the bond is no longer required. The revenue from the plates will be deposited into a fund for the design, production, and distribution of the plates. The plates will be available for purchase immediately, but the bill's provisions related to the bond and the creation of the fund will take effect on the 180th day after the bill becomes law.
