A 4903: Establishes a career and technical education (CTE) diploma; establishes a CTE pathway to a diploma shall be based on a curriculum designed to provide students with technical skills and shall demonstrate that the student is ready for a career as determined by regulations of the commissioner.
The bill establishes a career and technical education (CTE) pathway to a high school diploma. This pathway allows students to earn a diploma based on a course of study that provides technical knowledge and skills, rather than traditional academic requirements. The pathway includes completing a CTE course of study, a three-part technical assessment, work-based learning experiences, and a work-skills employability profile. The curriculum, assessments, and criteria for earning a diploma via this pathway will be established by the state board of regents. Students entering ninth grade in the 2026-2027 school year and thereafter will be eligible to earn a diploma via this pathway if made available by a school district. The bill takes effect immediately, allowing schools to implement the new pathway on its effective date.
