New York · Assembly · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 9, 2026

What A 4926 does, verified January 9, 2026

The bill aims to redefine the term "indoor area" in the context of public health. An indoor area is defined as a space with a roof covering, where the total actual wall surface area exceeds 75% of the total nominal wall area, allowing for free airflow without mechanical ventilation. The commissioner can determine a lower percentage, but it must not be lower than 50% of the total nominal wall area. The bill requires the commissioner to promulgate rules and regulations to define key terms and building specifications. The bill also repeals certain provisions related to indoor areas. The changes take effect immediately.
