New York · Assembly · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 9, 2026

What A 5088 does, verified January 9, 2026

The state of New York is amending its law to describe the official arms of the state and the state flag. The device of arms is now correctly described as a sun rising over a range of three mountains, a ship and sloop under sail on a river, and a globe terrestrial with the north Atlantic ocean. The arms are accompanied by a wreath featuring an American eagle and two figures: Liberty, vested in azure with a royal crown, and Justice, vested in or with a sword and scales. The state flag is declared to be blue and charged with the arms of the state in the colors described. The amendments take effect immediately, and any existing arms or flags printed prior to the effective date do not need to be removed or replaced.
