A 509: Allows camp employees who are 18 years of age or older to administer medications and treatment to children, under parent or guardian consent and authorization, pursuant to a patient specific order and in compliance with regulations.
The bill aims to expand the authority of camp employees to administer medications and treatment to children under certain circumstances. Camps can now permit employees to administer over-the-counter medications with specific authorization and consent from a child's parent or guardian. These medications can be used for pain relief, treating anaphylaxis, motion sickness, or emergency conditions such as asthma. The medications must be approved by the commissioner and administered in accordance with the rules and regulations promulgated by the commissioner and the commissioner of education. The bill also clarifies that camp employees acting under the direction and authority of a parent or guardian are considered authorized to administer medications and treatment. The bill takes effect 180 days after it becomes a law.
