What A 5171 does, verified February 26, 2026

The proposed law aims to prohibit municipal governments from denying building permits based on the type of fuel used in a building. The law defines a mixed-fuel building as one that uses a combination of electricity and natural gas, propane, or oil to meet its energy needs. Mixed-use buildings, which serve both residential and commercial purposes, are also subject to this provision. The law takes effect immediately, effectively ending the practice of denying building permits based on fuel type.
