What A 5370 does, verified September 11, 2025

The proposed legislation aims to amend the town law and public officers law in New York. The key points of the bill are as follows: The town of Pendleton in Niagara County is allowed to have a building inspector who is not a resident of the town, provided they reside in the county or an adjoining county. This exception is made possible by the amendment to the town law. The public officers law is also amended to allow a person to hold the office of building inspector in the town of Pendleton, despite not being a resident of the town. However, this exception only applies to the town of Pendleton and does not affect other towns. The proposed changes take effect immediately.
