Assembly BillIntroduced
A 5414: Removes the lifetime ban on jury duty for convicted felons.
What A 5414 does, verified August 14, 2026
The proposed law aims to amend the current jury qualification process in New York. To qualify as a juror, a person must be a US citizen, a resident of the county, at least 18 years old, and able to understand and communicate in English. A new provision will be added to the law, excusing individuals serving a term of incarceration for a felony conviction from jury service while they are incarcerated. This change is intended to remove the lifetime ban on jury duty for convicted felons, allowing them to potentially serve on a jury in the future, if eligible.
