What A 552 does, verified January 9, 2026

The bill aims to amend the penal law to include certain activities in transit and transportation facilities within the crime of criminal trespass in the second degree. Currently, being a registered sex offender is a crime in certain educational settings, such as schools. The bill would expand this rule to include public and private elementary, parochial, intermediate, junior high, vocational, and high schools. However, the bill would not apply to students, parents, or guardians who are lawfully registered or attending school events. Additionally, the bill would not penalize individuals who enter transportation facilities, such as airports or train stations, for voting or authorized purposes.
