What A 5593 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to provide supplemental valuation impact grants to school districts that have experienced significant financial hardship due to extraordinary changes in taxable property valuation or tax certiorari judgments. These districts must have more than 83% of their real property classified as tax exempt. The grants will be used to support schools with reduced taxable full values or large tax certiorari judgments. Two school districts, Barker Central and Haverstraw-Stony Point Central, will receive larger grants, while West Valley Central will receive a smaller grant. The grants will be paid according to the payment schedules contained in the Education Law.
