A 5607: Requires the department of labor to provide a document on workplace rights to any minor seeking working papers and to make such document available in other languages and to school officials who issue working papers.
The bill aims to provide minors seeking employment with a clear understanding of their labor rights. It requires the development of a workplace rights document by the labor department, which will be made available to school officials and minors seeking an employment certificate or permit. The document will explain basic labor rights, including child labor laws, wage and hour protections, worker safety, and the right to organize a union. Minors will be issued the document before or at the time of receiving an employment certificate or permit. The document will be translated into the ten most commonly spoken languages in the state and made available on the labor department's website. Employment certificates or permits issued to students will include the workplace rights document. The bill will take effect sixty days after it becomes a law.
