What A 5671 does, verified January 11, 2026

The bill aims to amend the civil practice law and rules to allow for the vacation of arbitration awards in cases where an arbitrator has shown a manifest disregard of the law. This means that if an arbitrator has clearly ignored or misinterpreted the law during the arbitration process, the award can be challenged and potentially overturned. The bill also requires that the party challenging the award must have continued with the arbitration process without objection after being notified of the defect. The changes will take effect 108 days after the bill becomes a law.
