What A 5715 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed law requires nursing homes and certain facilities to provide patients with health care proxy forms at or prior to admission. This allows patients to designate a person to make medical decisions on their behalf in case they become unable to do so. Patients will have the right to choose a health care proxy and will be provided with the opportunity to file the form with the relevant authorities. Facilities will be responsible for providing the form to patients and filing it on their behalf if they do not already have one registered. The law will take effect immediately.
