A 5780: Requires police reports of traffic accidents to include insurance information for the parties to the accident.
The proposed law aims to improve the reporting of traffic accidents in New York State. It requires police officers to immediately investigate and report accidents that result in injuries, and to include insurance information for the parties involved. The report must be made within five days of the accident. Additionally, coroners and other officials must also report deaths resulting from motor vehicle accidents, including information on the types of vehicles involved and their dimensions. The law also requires the inclusion of information on inflatable restraint systems and whether they inflated and deployed. The law takes effect immediately, and allows for the implementation of necessary rules and regulations within a certain timeframe.
