What A 5993 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to permit the employment of minors as referees, umpires, or officials at youth sporting events. The law would require the written consent of a minor's parent or guardian and a certificate from the minor's school to work at such events. The minor must be in satisfactory academic standing and can only serve at one event per week. The law also clarifies that service as a referee, umpire, or official at youth sporting events for minors under a certain age is not considered work.
