A 6187: Provides that all schools shall have a multi-cultural curriculum.
The proposed law requires all schools, including elementary, junior high, and senior high schools, to teach a multi-cultural curriculum. The curriculum must be set out in rules and regulations to be promulgated by the commissioner, considering the differences in the cultural composition of each school. Schools are allowed to do research and observation on their own student body to particularize multi-cultural education to fit the specific needs of each school. The commissioner must also promulgate rules and regulations for a teacher education program to train teachers and educators to teach and interact with students of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The law will take effect on the first of September next succeeding the date on which it becomes a law.
