A 6374: Requires passenger cabs be inspected for unsafe carbon monoxide levels; requires information on the warning signs of carbon monoxide poisoning to be distributed with each operator's license, whether issued or renewed.
The bill aims to improve vehicle safety by adding a safety inspection component that includes checking for carbon monoxide levels in the vehicle's cab. This inspection will also check for other safety mechanisms and equipment, such as brakes, steering mechanism, and seat belts. The bill requires the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to distribute a pamphlet to new and renewing license holders, educating them on the warning signs of carbon monoxide poisoning and the necessary actions to prevent such accidents. The bill takes effect 180 days after it becomes a law, allowing for the necessary implementation of new rules and regulations to support the changes.
