Assembly BillIntroduced
A 6438: Provides for the re-enfranchisement of voters with felony convictions by repealing certain provisions in the election law.
What A 6438 does, verified January 9, 2026
The bill aims to update the qualifications of voters convicted of a felony in the state. It repeals certain provisions of the election law that allow for voter registration cancellation due to felony convictions. The new law requires that a voter's registration be cancelled if they have been convicted of a felony disqualifying them from voting, have been adjudicated incompetent, or have died since their last registration. Additionally, the law removes the option for voters to request their name to be removed from the list of registered voters. The changes take effect immediately.
